A participation certificate is the one you print for everybody. Nobody had to be fastest, top scorer or on the winning side — they turned up to training in the rain, played the minutes they were given and finished the season. For most of a squad, that is the whole story, and it is worth writing down.

When to use it

End of season, when the trophies go to three players and the other eighteen go home with nothing. School sports day. A weekend tournament or a summer camp. A swimming club, a martial arts class, a running group, a five-a-side league. Anywhere a child — or an adult — committed months of Saturdays to something.

One thing decides whether it means anything: put the specifics on it. “Under-11 Reds, 2026 season” is a certificate somebody keeps; “for participating” is a certificate somebody loses. Write the team, the season or the event on the line under the name, and spell the name right — children notice, and they remember which one it was.

Participation, award or both?

They do different jobs, and a good presentation night uses both. This one goes to every player. The sports award certificate is for the named ones — player of the season, most improved, top scorer. If your event is not sport at all, the general certificate of participation has neutral wording that fits workshops, courses and community events.

How it works

Click any line on the certificate above and type over it. Choose your design, your paper size and, if you are printing thirty of them, the ink saver version. Then press Download PDF and print. Everything happens in your browser — the names you type are never uploaded anywhere, which matters when they are children’s names.

Printing a whole squad

Type the first name, download, change the name and download again. It is quicker than it sounds: the design, the team and the season stay where you put them, so each certificate is one field and one click.

Print at 100% scale, not “fit to page”, or the border will shift. Landscape orientation, and the paper size you downloaded — A4 outside the United States, US Letter inside it. Paper of 160 to 200 gsm costs a few cents more per sheet and is the difference between something that goes on a bedroom wall and something that goes in a bag and creases.

Editable in PowerPoint and Word

If you need the club badge, a sponsor logo or a second signature for the coach and the club secretary, download the editable file instead. The PowerPoint version opens in PowerPoint, Keynote, LibreOffice and Google Slides; the Word version opens in Word, Google Docs and LibreOffice. Every line is a real text box.

Questions

What should I write on a sports participation certificate?
The name, the team or club, and the season or event — for example “Under-11 Reds, 2026 season” or “Spring Swim Meet 2026”. If you have room, one line about the group’s year reads better than a line about the individual: it is a team certificate given to a person.

Should every player get the same one?
Yes. That is the point of it. Singling out individuals is what the award certificate is for, and mixing the two on the same night is what makes a participation certificate feel like a consolation prize.

Can we add our club badge?
Not in the browser version, which keeps the layout fixed so nothing shifts when you print thirty copies. Download the PowerPoint or Word file and drop the badge in there.

Is it really free?
Yes, for personal, educational and commercial use, with no watermark and no account. The only thing you cannot do is resell the file itself as a template.

Which paper size should I pick?
US Letter in the United States and Canada, A4 almost everywhere else. If you are unsure, check the paper already loaded in your printer.
