Honor roll is not a prize a teacher picks. It is a threshold — a gsade average, held across every subject, for a whole marking period. The student either cleared it or did not. That is what makes the certificate worth printing: it is not an opinion about a child, it is a record of what they did over three months.

When to use it

End of quarter, semester or term. An awards assembly, or quietly in the envelope that goes home with the report card. Some schools run one list, some run three — A Honor Roll, A–B Honor Roll, Principal’s List — and the certificate should say which one, because the difference is the whole point to the family reading it.

Write the marking period on it. “First Semester, 2026–27” turns a generic award into a dated record, and a student who collects four of them over a year has something that reads like a transcript on the bedroom wall.

Honor roll, student of the week or achievement?

Three different jobs, and mixing them up is what makes awards feel arbitrary. Honor roll is a measured threshold, awarded to everyone who reaches it — that could be six students or sixty. The student of the week certificate is a teacher’s choice, one child at a time. The certificate of achievement is the general-purpose one for anything that does not fit either.

How it works

Click any line on the certificate above and type over it. Pick your design, your paper size, and the ink saver version if you are printing a long list. Then press Download PDF and print. Everything happens in your browser — the names you type are never uploaded anywhere, which matters when they are students’ names.

Printing the whole list

Type the first name, download, change the name, download again. The design, the marking period and the signature line stay where you put them, so each certificate is one field and one click.

Print at 100% scale, not “fit to page”, or the border will shift on the page. Landscape orientation, and the paper size you actually downloaded — US Letter in the United States, A4 almost everywhere else. Card of 160 to 200 gsm costs a few cents more per sheet and is the difference between something that gets framed and something that creases in a backpack.

Editable in PowerPoint and Word

If you need the school crest, a district logo or a second signature for the counselor, download the editable file instead. The PowerPoint version opens in PowerPoint, Keynote, LibreOffice and Google Slides; the Word version opens in Word, Google Docs and LibreOffice. Every line is a real text box.

Questions

What should the wording say?
Name, the list, and the marking period: “A Honor Roll — First Semester, 2026–27”. If your school publishes the criteria, one line naming the grade average makes the certificate self-explanatory to anyone who reads it later.

Do we need a different certificate for each honor roll?
No. Type the list name on the body line and use the same template for all of them. That keeps the set looking like one set, which is how a family sees it when four of them go up side by side.

Can we add the school crest?
Not in the browser version, which keeps the layout fixed so nothing moves when you print sixty copies. Download the PowerPoint or Word file and drop the crest in there.

Is it really free?
Yes, for personal, educational and commercial use, with no watermark and no account. The only thing you cannot do is resell the file itself as a template.

Which paper size should I pick?
US Letter in the United States and Canada, A4 almost everywhere else. If you are unsure, check what is already loaded in the printer.
