In healthcare, a completion certificate is a record with a name on it. Somebody finished a rotation, a preceptorship or an in-service programme, and needs paper that says so — for a portfolio, a file, or the folder they take to their next interview.
Completion, participation or accreditation?
Three different claims, and mixing them up is how a certificate ends up rejected.
- Completion — this one. The person finished the programme and met its requirements: the hours, the assessment, the sign-offs.
- Participation — they attended. If there was no bar to clear, use the medical certificate of participation.
- Accreditation — not this, and not any template. Licences, board certifications, BLS and ACLS cards and CE credits are issued by the awarding body, and a printable certificate does not create one. Print this alongside their credential, never instead of it.
What to put on it
Four facts make it useful to whoever reads it next: the exact name of the programme, the dates or duration in hours, the institution, and who signed it. “Clinical Skills Programme — 80 hours — Ward 4, St Anne’s Hospital” tells a future employer something. “Successfully completed the training” tells them nothing.
If your programme issues reference numbers, add one — there is room for it in the editable version, and it turns a keepsake into something an administrator can verify.
Who uses it
Teaching hospitals for rotations and residencies, nursing schools for placements, clinics for in-service and mandatory training, first-aid and manual-handling instructors, care homes for induction programmes, and universities for clinical modules.
Before you print
Click any line above and type over it, pick a design and paper size, and download the PDF — it is made in your browser, so trainee names never leave your computer. If you need the institution’s logo, a second signature or a reference number, download the PowerPoint or Word version. Print at 100% scale, not “fit to page”, in landscape, on 160–200 gsm.
Questions
Does this count for CE or CPD credit?
Only if the programme itself is approved by the relevant body — the paper does not create the credit. Most bodies accept a certificate that states the hours and the provider; check their rules before the course, not after.
Can I use it as a nursing or medical licence?
No. Licences and board certifications come from the regulator or the certifying body. This documents a programme you ran; it does not confer a qualification.
Can I print one for a whole cohort?
Yes. Type the first name, download, change the name and download again. The programme name, dates and signature stay put.
Is it really free?
Yes, for personal, educational and commercial use, with no watermark and no account. The only thing you cannot do is resell the file itself as a template.
