Free Printable Certificate of Baptism Template

Every baptism produces two documents. One is the entry in the parish register, signed and filed, which is what anyone will ask for years later. The other is the one the family takes home and frames — and that is what this template is for.

What this is — and what it is not

This is a keepsake certificate. It is not the official record of baptism: that is issued by the church that performed it, drawn from its register, and a printable file cannot replace it. If someone needs a baptismal certificate for confirmation, marriage or ordination, they should ask the parish for a certified copy — not print one.

Said plainly so nobody has to guess: use this to give the family something beautiful on the day, not to document the sacrament.

The wording

The default is the Trinitarian formula — “was baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit” — which is what Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican and most Protestant churches use. Every line is editable, so:

• Congregations that baptise in the name of Jesus can change the formula.
• For a believer’s baptism, “was baptized upon profession of faith in Jesus Christ” reads better than the infant wording.
• For a baby dedication, which is not a baptism, change the title too — the distinction matters to the families who make it.

Put the name of the church at the end of that line, where a real certificate carries it, and sign it as Minister, Pastor, Priest or Celebrant.

What does not fit, and where to put it

The generator has a fixed set of lines, and a full baptismal record has more: parents, godparents or sponsors, place of birth, the officiant’s title, the register entry. If you need those, download the PowerPoint or Word version and add them — every line is a real text box, and there is room under the name for two or three more.

Before you print

Print at 100% scale, not “fit to page”, in landscape. This is one of the few certificates that genuinely gets framed, so it is worth using 200 gsm paper and, if you have one, a printer that does not band on the darker areas.

Questions

Is this an official baptismal certificate?
No. The official one comes from the church’s register. This is the presentation copy for the family.

Can I add the godparents?
Not in the browser version, which keeps the layout fixed. Download the Word or PowerPoint file and add a line under the name — that is where sponsors traditionally go.

Can a church use these for its own baptisms?
Yes, including printing them in quantity for an Easter Vigil or a group service. Add the parish name and logo in the editable version once, and reuse it.

Is it really free?
Yes, for personal, educational and commercial use, with no watermark and no account. The only thing you cannot do is resell the file itself as a template.
